HDI Exhibition pick: “Stuart Davis: In Full Swing” at the Whitney
Summer is officially starting today, but it has been in full swing already for a few weeks. We made the trek downtown and went to the New Whitney Museum to see the “Stuart Davis: In Full Swing” exhibition. Stuart Davis (1892-1964), one of the preeminent figures of American Modernism has always been one of our favorite artists and the show at the Whitney is a beautiful survey of over 100 works from the 1920’s until his death in 1964. Stuart Davis was always inspired by his earlier compositions and would reference his work in later paintings, which the Whitney cleverly highlights side by side. Davis was a master at transforming the chaos of everyday life into his colorful abstractions and this show gives a wonderful overview on his work. The exhibit is on view until September 25th, 2016 and we highly recommend it! Enjoy some of our favorite works, it wasn’t easy to choose just a few….
