HDI Exhibition Pick: “Picasso Sculpture” at the Museum of Modern Art
The Museum of Modern Art in New York will open Picasso Sculpture, a sweeping survey of Pablo Picasso’s innovative and influential work in three dimensions on September 14th. We were lucky to get a preview and wanted to share a few of our favorite photos of this spectacular exhibition. Picasso Sculpture focuses on the artist’s lifelong work with sculpture, with a particular focus on his use of materials and processes. It is a large and ambitious exhibition with 140 sculptures from 1902 to 1964. The sculptures encompass at least 10 various media, among them wood, plaster, sheet metal, clay, pebbles and small found objects. Our favorite sculptures, also the latest work in the exhibition were the sheet metal works from 1954-1964, which showed incredible innovation along with a highly developed sense of style and interaction of plainer surfaces in Picasso’s twilight years.
