HDI exhibition Pick: “Kerry James Marshall: Mastry” at The Met Breuer
Recently we made our way to The Met Breuer to see the current retrospective of the work of American artist Kerry James Marshall. This is the largest retrospective to date for Marshall and wow, what an amazing exhibit this is! The exhibition includes 72 paintings that span the 35-year career of the artist (Marshall was born in 1955 in Birmingham, Alabama) and every painting tells a story. You can say that Marshall is a master story teller and he is depicts in a very complex and compelling way the traditions of African American life and experience. The paintings invite you to study them and find new nuances to them every time you look at them. It is an absolutely wonderful exhibition and if you are in New York, don’t miss it. It’s on view at The Met Breuer until January 29, 2017.
