HDI Exhibition pick: “Max Beckmann in New York” at the Met
The Met Museum is always worth a visit and we recently went to see the absolutely spectacular “Max Beckmann in New York” exhibit. The show features 14 paintings that Beckmann created while living in New York from 1949 to 1950, as well as 25 works, dating from 1920 to 1948, from New York collections. The exhibit covers self-portraits, expressionist interiors, wonderful portraits of women and groups of people, as well as two triptychs. A personal favorite were the wonderful portraits that Beckmann painted of his wife “Quappi”. Beckmann moved to New York City in early September of 1949 and died in NYC in December of 1950 while on his way to the Met to see his own painting “Self-Portrait in Blue Jacket (1950)” which was on view for the exhibit American Painting Today. Enjoy some of our favorite works and if you are in New York, the exhibit is on view until February 20th, 2017.
