HDI Exhibition Tip: “Outliers and American Vanguard Art” – Quilts, LACMA, Los Angeles
In our previous Musings post we showed favorite images, mainly paintings and sculpture from the “Outliers and American Vanguard Art” exhibition currently on view at LACMA. A whole section in this exquisite exhibition is devoted to quilts and we wanted to highlight photos in a separate post, as they are quite spectacular. In the late 1960’s several museum shows presented quilts, which were traditionally considered craft rather than fine art. Quilts shown at that time are now seen as unacknowledged precursors (on account of their colorful patterns and grid structures) to the geometric abstract paintings that dominated American art at that time. Enjoy!
